Last Sunday as we drove to church in Santa Lucia Cotz we noticed how cloudy and dusty the sky appeared. Soon we saw "Fuego" spouting ashen smoke and knew why.
The people on the slopes of the volcano have returned home but Fuego is still blowing it's steam.
We also noticed how dry it was in the mountain passes and on the plains. Time to begin the sugar cane harvest.
These triple trailer trucks are heavily packed with sugar cane headed to refineries. They are sooo dusty and move fast. We try to stay behind them. The harvest has just begun and may last as long as three months. Many men from our congregation are gone as well. Good money is hard to find in this particular part of Guatemala and they take advantage to feed their families.
We were greeted by this inviting poster when we stepped inside the church foyer.
Each Primary child was given a badge, a bookmark and a sucker with the theme on it-I Am A Child of God.
Our meetings begin at 8:00 a.m. and they all came at 7:00 a.m. to practice. They dressed in red and white and warmed our hearts and souls with singing and short memorized pieces about being a son or daughter of Heavenly Father. This is less than a fourth of the children that were there. I snapped this photo (along with parents) as they lined them up by Primary class in from of the large poster.
It was a good way to spend some Sabbath time.

Thank goodness for Waze! Our usual route to Santa Lucia Cotz was blocked in three places due to a large "feria" (fair) in Siquinalá, a town that we drive through. We made it to church a little late due to an extra 7 kilometers.
