Manuel took us to central Guatemala City to tour the national palace. Just as we entered the guard was changing.
It became very apparent that there is a discrepancy between rich and poor, the haves and the have nots.
This palace was built in the 1930s-40s under the direction of President Jorge Ubico and has many abundant details throughout.
The building has at least two large open air courtyards.
Stained glass windows (some in need of repair due to earthquakes),
woodwork,
and art tell the history of the country and the Spanish conquest.
The chandelier was made in Brussels.
